Seer Steps Outside Her Comfort Zone With Frozen: Interview
Impulse Africa Magazine Team recently caught up with Eastern Caper singer Siyasanga Kambi, known as Seer the music circles following the release of her single Frozen.
Growing the 32-year-old Seer has always wanted to be a professional singer. She was inspired by commercial vocalists such as Whitney Houston, Celine Deon and Maria Carey.
On the spiritual front, there was strong influence from the likes of Cece Winans, Kirk Franklin and Hillsong.
Seer wanted to be more than just a beautiful voice. She wanted her music to make a difference, to touch the lives of its listeners and to help people navigate this crazy world.

In describing the track, she says, “I think a lot of people will relate to the song because a lot of us have had a toxic relationship with someone or something. ‘
Seer’s message is an important one. If we are to free ourselves of past pain and mistakes, we need to acknowledge what was done to us, or take responsibility for our own actions.
- Briefly tell us about yourself?
My name is Seer, born Siyasanga Kambi. From Komani Eastern Cape. I am an artist, singer-songwriter and creative producer.
- How would you describe your music sound/genre?
I don’t like to restrict my music to any particular genre. Even with Frozen, with which we took a pop approach, you’ll find a bit of RnB, soul and indie influences.
- How did you decide on which genre to take?
We chose pop for this song to appeal to the American audience in preparation for IMTA 2022. But I usually allow my music to flow, sometimes its gospel, sometimes it’s pop, afro pop, a ballad, anything really.
- How do you stay passionate?
I stick to what I believe in even if it’s unconventional. I don’t reconstruct my story to suite the popular narrative.
- Have you always been comfortable being yourself?
Not at all. And at times I didn’t even know it. Because my issues with myself were not physical, but more emotional. It took a good 4 years of healing to finally be comfortable with my flaws, mistakes and short comings.
That allowed me to see and celebrate my strengths, capabilities and unconventional posture of my heart.
- You take a detailed look at toxic environments on this single. Is it somethings easy for you to write about or does it hurt to go back?
I’m comfortable talking about it now, coz I know the power of my story. I couldn’t even write something like this 4 years ago because I was still so ashamed of some of the choices I had made.
- What inspired Frozen?
The song really just took its own direction in a co-writing session with the producer Gino Lee. But we could tell from the first verse that we were dealing with a toxic relationship here and we went with it.
I guess it was easy to write coz I can relate, with romance, career and talent, family and so many different areas of my life.

- With this being your debut single what are you hoping to achieve?
It’s actually a follow up single. In 2020 I released a pop gospel single called Accolades, but it was under a different name, CYA Kambi. With this project I hoping to gain more local and international recognition to pave way for the EP I’m working on.
- 2020 was a year like none of us have ever experienced. How did the pandemic change you or influence your decisions going forward?
Absolutely, I wouldn’t have released Accolades if it wasn’t for the events of that year. And that alone gave me the confidence and assurance that I was born for this.
- Any upcoming projects you are currently working on? And what can your fans expect this year.
I’m working on a visual EP and by God’s grace, a tour at the end of the year.
- Have you ever doubted yourself? And how did you take care of your wellbeing during that time

I used to doubt myself every minute of every day. It took the consistent decision to do the very things that scared me and praying through every process to teach me that I am actually good enough.
- Three things people do not know about you?
- I’m pescatarian by choice not religion.
- I’m born again and mad about Christ.
- I work for an agricultural institution in Komani as my day job.
- What are you most grateful for right now?
- Life, I was recently in a very bad car accident. Someone ran me over and almost cut off my leg. But I’m healing well.
- Family, I wouldn’t be where I am today without the emotional, spiritual, physical and financial support of my family.
- The gift of salvation. I only overcome through Christ. Life is hard, and I basically have cheat sheet to all the BS.. LOL, Not only that, I’m reminded every day that I’m way more powerful than what I believe.
