15 year old Singhita poised for stardom: Interview

Impulse Africa Magazine caught up with 15-year-old singer and songwriter Singhita, following the release of her second titled My Heart.

An aspiring model, actress and an avid equestrian, Singhita is staring at an empty canvas in front of her and the world is her oyster. Stroke by stroke she is painting her masterpiece.

Briefly tell us about your journey as a musician so far?

I went for a couple of singing lessons before auditioning for IATS and there I got a call back for my singing. I also got call backs for modelling and acting and the stage was set for me to perform.

The preparations for IMTA New York was where I realized I needed to up my game and start taking things more seriously.  I met Gino Lee at the Bootcamps and collaborated with him on both my singles.

I am extremely lucky that I had the opportunity to perform at IMTA New York last year July.

My new single has woken up the butterflies again and I am extremely excited about promoting my song and myself.

How would you describe your sound?

Young, upbeat with and African feel.

 Where do you draw your inspiration from as a musician?

Personal experiences.

Your latest single, what was the inspiration behind it?

Being a teenager and talking to my friends realising how many people are stuck in toxic relationships that they do not even realise it is toxic to them.

What, in your opinion, makes you unique as an artist?

I have a quiet confidence and am very humble about my talent.

 Do you have any hidden talents?  (i.e. painting, singing, dancing, sports, crafts)

I am an avid equestrian and absolutely love horses.

Do you have any words that you live by?

Work hard in silence and let your success be the noise.

 Who has been the greatest influence in your life and in what way?

Elsubie Verlinden from 33 & Me Talent Agency. She initiated my trip to NYC for IMTA. This experience changed my life.

Three things people do not know about you?

Sushi is my favourite food

I am gluten intolerant

I can twist my tongue in 3 loops

What are you most grateful for right now?  

For my parents who support me in pursuing my dream.
