Spotify and Tuned Global Forge New Partnerships to Expand Music Streaming in Africa
The music streaming landscape in sub-Saharan Africa is witnessing a surge of activity in 2023, with Spotify and Tuned Global announcing new partnerships to enhance the region’s music streaming experience.
Spotify has partnered with Orange Middle East and Africa to offer data bonuses to Orange’s customers in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Madagascar, Mali, and Guinea. This collaboration aims to address the high data costs that often hinder music streaming in the region.
“We are aware that data costs continue to be a hindrance for people who would like to stream music, that’s why we are actively working at Spotify SSA on partnerships like this one,” said Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy, Spotify’s MD for sub-Saharan Africa.

Meanwhile, Tuned Global, a B2B firm specializing in music streaming solutions, has announced two new partnerships in Africa:
- Jumamo: Tuned Global is collaborating with Jumamo, a Nigerian music service, to provide technology, content, and expertise to enhance the platform’s capabilities.
- Sewasew: Tuned Global is also partnering with Sewasew, an Ethiopian DSP that recently secured a deal with Universal Music Group. This partnership will focus on expanding Sewasew’s reach and providing a wider range of music options to Ethiopian listeners.
In addition to these new partnerships, Tuned Global has also revealed its role in the launch of Tieme Music, a Ghana-based streaming service that debuted in 2022.
“African music fans expect the same level of responsiveness and experience as listeners do in other regions, and we’re providing the technology, content, and advice to let services achieve that,” said Con Raso, Tuned Global MD.
These partnerships between Spotify and Tuned Global underscore the growing recognition of Africa’s potential in the global music streaming market. By addressing data cost barriers and providing tailored solutions, these collaborations aim to democratize music access and foster a vibrant music streaming ecosystem across Africa.
