The African Arts DAO (Decentralised Autonomous Organisation) alongside the creators of Twohues.nft presents the worldwide livestream of the Two Hues project with the second webinar instalment on Thursday 23rd November at 21:00 SA time, 20:00 CET and 10 am PST on beem.xyz. The next webinar titled “The Gaze” features renowned photographer Nicky Newman alongside, the creator of Two Hues, Weaam Williams and is to be moderated by Tess Fenn from Beem.

Nicky Newman will add a limited edition of photographs to the Two Hues collection. “The Gaze” is a discussion around looking at archive, film and photography from a gendered lens, and the importance of women documenting our own history as the world plunges into an out roar against gender-based violence. The protagonist in Two Hues is a photographer, and her role in the feature film is expanded to being an activist photographer in the “Total Shutdown” movement while Nicky Newman, has archived this movement against Gender Based Violence. The discussion is one of real life meets the movie script.

“Web3 and film3 is about engaging audiences beyond a social media page, but rather taking them alongside on a journey into making a film, with stimulating discussions which allows for audience participation via a DAO. With my film project, I have created a series of webinars to open up the doors to web3 on the continent, foster collaboration and build a sustainable art economic ecosystem.

After just one webinar, I have already onboarded several artists interested in entering the space.” The first live mint for Two Hues took place on beem.xyz, on the 3rd of November. The mint date is the date the NFT becomes available on the block-chain. The first webinar on the third of November was a conversation with Tess Fenn (Beem Impact Manager), Weaam Williams (Two Hues) and Sara Dehkordi (Iranian academic and author). Titled “An injury to one is an injury to all.” The conversation addressed women’s issues world-wide, with a focus on Iran, and looked to mechanisms of solidarity.

Munashe Magidi, co-founder of the DAO, “I think the formation of the African Arts DAO is a great opportunity for representation of creators who previously have been marginalised and the DAO aims to create a bridge not only financially but also with human resources to nurture talent and educate the arts sector with web3.” “ I realised is that there is a gap in knowledge with regards to web 3 from the arts community, and that to grow as a sustainable community we have to operate as a DAO.

The DAO was built by Nafia Kocks, who brought on board Munashe a fellow web 3 enthusiast and specialist. And we collectively onboarded our other team members, Nozipho Mlanga, Siraaj Larney and Nkululeko Zilibokwe. We have been working around the clock to create the infra-structure for our DAO and I hope the arts community will join us on a journey into web 3 and it’s endless possibilities for the sector. ”

The “Two Hues” feature film project, is the pilot project for the African Arts DAO, that undertakes to assist artists to launch their own NFT collections i.e. film projects, literary works, archive, 3d art etc and work towards a sustainable, autonomous and democratic ecosystem for the sector. The DAO is an intervention to assist the arts community with collaboration and to reach a sustainable equilibrium, it is open to worldwide partnerships with organisations and artists who want to collaborate with web3 and film3 practitioners on the continent.
