Chukz Freshking is creating his own lane in music: Interview
Impulse Magazine Africa Team recently caught up with rising hip hop artist Chukz Freshking who is proving to be one of the most promising talents around.
Known for his classic raps and effortless flows, based in Johannesburg the multi-talented rapper and songwriter is set to bring a breath of fresh air in the music industry, with a humble spirit and professionalism that belies his youth.
- Briefly tell us about your journey as a musician so far?
Honestly speaking my journey has been a roller coaster, I had my peak seasons and also my lows. But regardless I taught myself to always be grateful for every single opportunity I received to showcase what I am capable of.
2. How would you describe your sound?
I would not describe it at all because my music goes with my mood for instance, if I am in my feeling I will make a specific song that will go with how I am feeling at that particular time.
3. How has the process of establishing your own core sound and style been?
It took me a while to really find my own style of making music because I had to stay in studio for long hours trying to sharpen my craft.
4. Where do you draw your inspiration from as a musician?
My day to day life experiences and my real life struggles. Also visiting new places and meeting new people gives me more ideas to get creative.
5.Your latest single, what was the inspiration behind it?
Parlaying the song was inspired by the fact that I have been losing my whole life and now it’s a different story because I am winning.
6. Have you noticed any difference in the way people consumed your music during and after the lockdown?
Yes, during lockdown my streams and views did great because I dropped new song every Friday as people needed to hear new music to get more entertainment.
After lockdown it slacked a bit but I am still on top of my game.
7. As an upcoming artist what would you say is the most important lesson you have learnt so far?
Consistency you really need to stay working and keeping the momentum going up, by doing so you eventually become a pro at it. Stay at it Fam.
8. Three things people do not know about Chukz?
- I can’t sleep without wearing socks.
- I love watching cartoons with all my heart.
- I prefer sipping on soda more than eating food.
