Proudly South African film Kaalgat Karel hits cinemas
The wait is finally over, Boondogle Films’ highly anticipated streaking comedy Kaalgat Karel has finally hit local cinemas as of 24 September, and ticket sales are now open.
Kaalgat Karel tells the heart-warming story of Karel Venter (Francois Jacobs), a thirty-year-old guy who loves the thrill of streaking during sports matches.
He falls head-over-heels for paramedic and single mom, Rita (Christia Visser) who treats him after a streak gone wrong, but she seems to have no interest in his streaking shenanigans.
This tummy-tickling Afrikaans motion picture, with English sub-titles, has already impressed critics and movie enthusiasts and won awards at several prestigious international film festivals.
The awards include Best Feature Film, Best Romantic Comedy, Best Produced Feature Film Screenplay, and Best International Production.
The theme song Altyd Op Vakansie was written by Jack Parow and Loki Rothman.
It not only contributes to the relaxed vibe of the film, but also contains all the necessary ingredients of a bona fide summer hit that is set to remain popular for years to come.
The film is locally distributed by Filmfinity (Pty) Ltd. and was produced in cooperation with kykNET, the Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC), the Eastern Cape Provincial Arts and Culture Council (ECPACC), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and its brand integration partners, Galito’s, Red Alert and the Hathaway Group of Guesthouses.
The movie is the story of a streaker with a cheeky sense of humour and a great big heart. After one of his escapades goes wrong, he falls for the gorgeous paramedic who rescued him, but there’s a double problem.
She’s a hard-working single mom with no time for his shenanigans, and he has a rival for her affections in the form of a wealthy and super-arrogant plastic surgeon.
Will Karel spend the rest of his life in the friend zone or will true love win the day? You’ll have to watch it to find out.
Kaalgat Karel also features a star-studded line up of Schalk Bezuidenhout, Siv Ngesi, Tracey-Lee Oliver and Eden Claassens. The film can be seen nationwide at Ster-Kinekor and Nu Metro cinemas.
