Mbedle Makasana Star On The Rise: Interview

Impulse Africa Magazine caught up with the multi-talented rapper and songwriter as he gears up to release more music for his fans in 2022

Mbedle Makasana, the rising freshman has come back stronger with a tribute to authenticity and his roots with new anthem titled Where I Am Coming From.

Widely known as the voice of the ghetto with his story telling skills a soulful voice, humble spirit and professionalism that belies his youth.  Mbedle Makasana is more just a hit-maker but a healer through his music. 

1.  Briefly tell us about yourself?

Mbedle Makasana is a musician from KZN Tongaat Hambanathi who is making hip hop music and also versatile to other genres.

2.  How would you describe your music sound/genre?

I’d say that the focus is more on the hip hop side but also mixed with a lot of genres such as gospel, Kwaito, Gqom.

3.  How was the journey of finding your core sound and style in the beginning?

At the beginning it was kind of difficult finding my own sound and being different to other artists but as time went by, I finally knew who i am in this industry.

4.  Where do you draw inspiration from as a creator?

I draw inspiration from my past life and every situation that i witness around me.

5.  Your EP released last year was well received, what would you attribute the project success to?

The 4 Pull EP really helped me a lot because i got to work with different artists on each song on the project and most of the songs on the EP made it on different platforms.

6. 2020 was a year like none of us have ever experienced. How did the pandemic change you or influence your decisions going forward?

The pandemic had its advantages and disadvantages because i had more time to spend in studio and perfect my craft but on the other side it was hard to get gig since we had a shutdown.

7. Did you notice any difference in the way people consume music post lockdown?

Yes, a lot of life plans changed and people were always indoors so the internet/social media played a huge role to their lives and it was the only way to connect also the streaming numbers scale raised.

8. Any upcoming projects you are currently working on? And what can your fans expect from you in the second half of the year.

I’m currently working on a Timeless Squad project that includes the likes of Bricka Iphanta, Alcatraz, Jah Major and Smizzy who are also under the wing of Timeless Production.

My fans can expect a lot of visuals from my previous projects and great collaborations.

9.  Can you tell us about your partnership with your label Timeless Productions and how did it come about.

Timeless Productions is a home away from home to me. I’ve found my brothers from another mothers, it started by liking each other’s music and following each other on social media and I was given a chance to be an independent artist under the eye watch of Timeless Productions.

10.  What are you most grateful for right now?

I’m grateful of life and well-being of the people close to me and I’m also grateful for the support I’m receiving from different cities.
