Smition sets sights on putting Kasi rap on the map
Impulse Africa Magazine recently caught up with talented hip hop/rap artist Smition after the success of his hit single Ang’khathali featuring Gigi Lamayne and Musiholiq he continues to push the envelop and stake a claim for himself in the music industry.
Rising hip hop freshman’s journey in the music industry has been a mixture of highs and lows as he sets his sights on making sure that Kasi stories get heard. His music is inspired by the day to day life of Kasi activities.
1.Briefly tell us about your journey as a musician so far?
My journey in the music industry has been bitter sweet, because trying to pursue a calling and a dream and overcoming obstacles at the same time can come with a lot of emotions especially in a cut throat industry that we find ourselves in.
2. How would you describe your sound?
My sound portrays a life of iKasi and basically how we take every day as it comes.
3.How has the process of establishing your own core sound and style been?
I honestly just did what i felt and originality was my first principle and people were vibing to what I do that’s when I knew that this is the path l want to take.
4. Where do you draw your inspiration from as a musician?
The everyday life and memorable kasi moments, that’s where I draw inspiration from.
5. Your upcoming single with Zakwe, what was the inspiration behind it?
The memorable olden days when originality was the order of the day, no faked accents and no faked life styles hence the sample.
6. Which artists inspire you and why?
It’ll have to be jay z, because not only he’s a musician he’s also a dedicated business man.

7. As an upcoming artist what would you say is the most important lesson you have learnt so far?
Above all I’ve learned that music is business.
8.Three things people do not know about Smition?
Heew, people don’t actually know that I don’t drink alcohol and I don’t smoke, also that I don’t go out much.
9.What can your fans expect from you for the remainder of 2021?
There is a big announcement that I’m going to make just in the middle of December.
